Here is an ancient castle.
Moule, 1838, p281

City, municipal and parliamentary borough in the parishes of St Mary, Kenwyn and St Clement, received its charter of incorporation about 1130. The Vice Warden of the Stannaries holds his sittings here quarterly, and the Stannary Court was first held here in the time of William and Mary. The late St Mary's church was demolished about 3 years ago, except a portion of the southern wall, and the Truro cathedral is being raised on its site. Population in 1871 was 11,049.
