Ecclesiastical parish. In the Archdeaconry of Cornwall until 1878 and thereafter in the Archdeaconry of Bodmin. Deanery of Trigg Major. Part of the parish was taken in 1849 to form part of the modern parish of Bolventor. The two parishes were later joined and now comprise the modern parish of Altarnon with Bolventor which is itself a United Benefice with the parishes of Laneast and St Clether.

Hundred of Lesnewth and with a small part in the Hundred of East. Altarnun civil parish.
